Since 1991, extensive renovation work has been taking place at the Vienna State Opera. The short period of closure for the renewal of the stage hydraulics has also been used to erect a rehearsal stage in the area of the hipped roof. Due to the difficult conditions at the construction site, the transport possibilities in particular had to be taken into account in the planning. For example, it was not possible to use larger steel beams. It was necessary to create a connection from the stage house so that the artists did not have to walk through the audience areas for rehearsals. To increase the playable area, a wall opening was made in a load-bearing wall. The corner towers visible from the side of the Ringstrasse have been used for break purposes, where natural ventilation is provided by the existing windows.
