Vienna-Ottakring Federal Higher Technical Institute

This project forms the core of the large-scale urban renewal of Ottakring New.
The listed building of the former tobacco factory, a brick building with cast-iron columns and traverse ceilings, was carefully restored and, with the addition of a new wing, expanded into the Federal Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
The main access to the building is via the spacious forecourt on Thaliastrasse. The old building mainly accommodates workshops, laboratories and special classrooms. The new building, which is centrally attached to the existing building, contains the classrooms and drawing rooms on the upper floors and the naturally lit and ventilated gymnasium on the lower floor.
A glass structure, the link between the existing and the new building, contains the vertical access and serves to compensate for the different floor heights.
